چکیده

Design/Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of the 1-year survival rate of maxillary lingual bonded retainers. A sample of 466 consecutively bonded retainers was evaluated over a 1-year period. Out of that group, 322 had lingual retainers bonded from canine-to-canine, 89 subjects had lingual retainers bonded between the lateral incisors, and 35 subjects had lingual bonded retainers between the 2 central incisors. The authors evaluated the debond or failure rate of these subjects.

An Overview of Fixed and Removable Orthodontic Retainers

Background and purpose: One of the main challenges in orthodontic treatment is relapse after treatment and return of the teeth to its original position. Therefore, retainers are an essential part of orthodontic treatment. Fixed and removable retainers are commonly used in orthodontic retention. They prevent relapse and require patientchr('39')s cooperation in using them. This review study aime...

Glass fibre reinforced versus multistranded bonded orthodontic retainers: a 2 year prospective multi-centre study.

The objective of this study was to compare glass fibre reinforced (GFR) with multistranded bonded orthodontic retainers in terms of success rate and periodontal implications. A 2 year parallel study was conducted of 184 patients scheduled to receive bonded retainers in the upper and lower anterior segments. In three centres, the patients (mean age 14 years; 90 males and 94 females) were sequent...

The effects of fixed and removable orthodontic retainers: a systematic review

OBJECTIVE In the view of the widespread acceptance of indefinite retention, it is important to determine the effects of fixed and removable orthodontic retainers on periodontal health, survival and failure rates of retainers, cost-effectiveness, and impact of orthodontic retainers on patient-reported outcomes. METHODS A comprehensive literature search was undertaken based on a defined electro...

Clinical evaluation of bond failures and survival between mandibular canine-to-canine retainers made of flexible spiral wire and fiber-reinforced composite

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this longitudinal prospective randomized study was to evaluate the clinical reliability of two different types of postorthodontic treatment retainers: a silanised-treated glass fibers-reinforced resin composite (FRC) and a directly bonded multistranded stainless steel wire. The hypothesis of the study was to assess if significant differences are present between failure...

A prospective clinical evaluation of mandibular lingual retainer survival.

Bonded retainers are considered reliable, independent of patient co-operation, and highly efficient. However, most studies regarding the survival of retainers are retrospective. The aims of this investigation were to prospectively evaluate the failure rate of bonded lingual retainers, the influence of direct or indirect bonding procedures on survival, and to determine the distribution of failur...
